REL 100 Introduction to Christianity
September 2022 - April 2023
This course introduces students to the study of Christianity. It begins with a brief overview of Christianity as a religion of the Bible. Then it moves to a consideration of major Christian beliefs, the history of Christianity, and how Christianity is lived within the church and in this post-modern world.
REL 200 Biblical Foundations - Old Testament

An introductory survey of the Old Testament. The course combines the study of the background, history and literature of the Hebrew Bible.
REL 302 Pentateuch

A study of the first five books of the Bible with emphasis on what they teach about God, humanity, and human community.
REL 250 Christianity and the Marginalized
January - April 2023
This course examines the biblical and theological foundations of Christianity’s orientation toward those who are marginalized in society. The course also considers examples of advocacy and intervention to promote human flourishing (shalom) as a theologically grounded priority within Christianity. Examples of the Christian movements and movements influenced by Christianity examined in the course may include, among others, the 19th century anti-slavery movement, The Salvation Army, the social gospel movement of the 20th century, the civil rights movement, Catholic social teaching and liberation theology.
REL 303 Hebrew Bible Prophets

This course introduces students to the nature of prophets and prophecy. Student then focus on the reading and interpretation of the eighth century BCE prophets Amos, Hosea and Isaiah.
REL 395/490 Jeremiah

The book of Jeremiah presents a host of challenges. But it is a compelling book that addresses the trauma created by massive destruction and suffering in the experience of Judah in the 6th century BCE. As a prophet, Jeremiah experienced God in the midst of suffering and destruction. But he also received the gift of hope for the future.
REL 330 Wesleyan Distinctives in Theology
